Waikato contractor’s Langsford N&G employ 22 full-time staff, which requires different income streams throughout the year.
these include the usual suspects – baling, cultivation and drilling – but Langsford offers additional services as well. Its fleet of trucks is one of these and its latest addition is three JOSKIN KTP tipping trailers.
Based in Cambridge, Langsford N&G is owned and operated by couple Nick Russo and Georgie Barnett. They use their Joskin trailers in civil construction.
Georgie: “on civil works sites there is such a high demand for tractors and trailers, as opposed to truck and trailers. the tractors can work in any weather”
Nick: “I did my research and Joskin trailers are built stronger and are a far superier product than anything else. they do the job and are cost efficient.”
They brought all three KTP 17/50 Joskin trailers in March through Lloyd Salt, sales representative of AGrowQuip NZ Ltd – Cambridge branch. Previous to the purchase they had been hiring trailers, but that was getting expensive, and with a new contract in mind they needed bigger trailers that suited the horsepower they had available (130-200hp)
One of Nick and Georgie’s trailers just happens to be the 7000th manufactured KTP trailer by Joskin. Langsford’s Joskin trailers have double axles with a crossover bogie and a 17 tonne payload. The KTP model is made with 5mm Hardox steel. this makes it tough but light, which ensures they an carry a higher payload for the weight of the trailer. (The 22 and 27 tonne models are made with 6mm steel)
Joskin has developed a narrow chassis for its KTP trailers, which allows them to have wide wheels whilst keeping within width of 2.55m wide.
Nick and Georgie specified their KTP with ‘hungry boards’or side extensions to take bigger loads.
“The hungry boards also stop the diggers from damaging the trailer itself. they can only damage the boards and they are easily replaced” Nick says.
The excellent suspension coupled with a ball and spoon hitch takes all the jarring out of the tractor. Nick says it gives a smooth ride to the operator, so they are less fatigued and there is less wear and tear on trailer and tractor.
Because they employee so many staff, it is important that all Nick and Georgies machinery has every safety feature. an important one for these trailers is the safety lever, which can be engaged manually when the trailer is tipped for maintenance.
Operators can be underneath them to grease and there is no chance a burst hose or anything else can go wrong and crush them. Similar safety features also ensures the back door cannot come open in transit if there is a failure in hydraulics.

Langsford N&G deploys its trailers 10 months of the year, mainly on roading and its subdivision infrastructure work. they cart sand, rock and soil.
The trailers not only provide additional employment for staff, they also extend the working year of the big tractors, making them more cost effective as well.
Nick and Georgie brought the three trailers from their local dealer AGrowQuip, this company has been p[art of Nicks family for a long time.
“My grandfather dealt with them (AGrowQuip) so thats three generations of being business associates but also friends. You couldn’t ask for better service!”
AGrowQuip is just half a kilometer away from Langsfords N&G, as is Joskin importer OriginAg.
“We are all local people supporting each other” Nick says. “If we have a tractor breakdown, AGrowQuip supplies another on the spot”.
Joskin also makes grain and silage trailers, as well as a full range of tipping trailers. All Joskin’s trailers come with a conditional three year warranty, and OriginAg provides full backup service and wear parts via their nationwide dealer network.
Nick says “getting these Joskin trailers was definitely a good decision”.
